Faculty of Law graduate Mark J. Sandler (LLB 1978) has been selected to receive the 2025 Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA) Award of Distinction.

One of Canada’s most respected and prominent criminal lawyers, Sandler has practised criminal appellate and trial litigation for more than four decades.

The TLA Award of Distinction is awarded in recognition of the recipient's lifetime contributions, excellence and outstanding achievements, as well as his or her dedication to the Toronto community, legal and at large.

The Tort Law and Social Equality Project (TLSE) at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law has been granted leave to intervene in the upcoming Supreme Court of Canada appeal in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia.

This significant appeal will consider whether the tort of family violence should be recognized as a necessary and narrow extension of the common law, addressing constitutional values of equality and the needs of those harmed by family violence.

Jérémy Boulanger-Bonnelly (SJD 2023), an assistant professor at the McGill University Faculty of Law, has won the best scholarly paper in the annual legal writing competition by the Fondation du Barreau du Québec (Bar of Quebec). He was recognized for his McGill Law Journal article, "Actions collectives et tribunaux administratifs : un vide juridictionnel à combler" (2022).
