10. A Convocation to remember

More than 200 graduates of the Faculty of Law were lucky enough to have an honorary degree recipient and commencement address like no other at their June 7 convocation ceremony.

The Faculty of Law’s Kyle Kirkup, SJD candidate, and alumnus Ryan Liss, JD 2011, are two of the 14 recipients of the 2013 Trudeau Foundation Scholarships, Canada’s most notable doctoral awards.

 

 8. Islamic scholars at Faculty of Law Summer Institute visit gay and lesbian mosque

Most visitors to Toronto are not taken on a surprise trip to the city’s only Islamic mosque for gays and lesbians. Two weeks ago when a group of international Islamic scholars arrived for the Faculty of Law’s Summer Institute on Islamic Studies in collaboration with Emmanuel College, they saw their agenda for the first time.

 

 7. Five alumni named to Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers list of 2013

Five outstanding alumni have been named to Canadian Lawyer magazine’s annual Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers list for 2013.

 

 6. Class of 2013 grads are set to launch their careers

After three years of bleary nights, lectures and seminars, study groups and grueling exams, more than 200 students from the Class of 2013 will be celebrating with their family and friends at convocation ceremonies and a Faculty of Law lunch on June 7.

 

 5. Faculty of Law’s first free LSAT prep course helps send six students to law school

Six students who participated in the Faculty of Law’s first free Law School Admission Test (LSAT) preparatory program for qualified, low-income students—the first one in Canada—have been accepted to law schools, two of them at the University of Toronto in September.

 3. In memoriam: Madam Justice Joan Lax

The Faculty of Law is very saddened to hear that Madam Justice Joan Lax of the Ontario Superior Court passed away suddenly on Nov. 4, 2013.

 

 2. Law professor appears on 'Jeopardy' this Christmas Day

“I’ll take really cool academics for $500.”

Answer: “He’s a law professor, was born in England, and will be on Jeopardy this Christmas Day.”
