Law and Lawyers in Literature and Film

This colloquium of the Chief Justice of Ontario's Advisory Committee on Professionalism bridges the perspectives of practitioners and academics on what it means to practise law with "honour" and "integrity" in a variety of practice modes and specialties. It also considers how lawyers and the legal profession are viewed in the media and by the public. It offers both practical tools and personal reflections on the changing nature of law practice and how the legal profession's core values can be identified and maintained in challenging times.

The program for the day will explore the intersection of legal professionalism and popular culture and will feature a wide range of speakers and chairs, including:

The keynote address will be given by Professor Michael Asimow from UCLA's School of Law. He is the author of Reel Justice: The Courtroom Goes to the Movies (1996) (co-authored with Paul Bergman), a book about the great courtroom movies of the past and present and Law and Popular Culture: A Course Book (2004) (with Shannon Mader).
