MAiD: What legal rights do patients have vs. the rights of their families? Trudo Lemmens on CTV Your Morning

 

In Alberta, the father of a 27-year-old woman has asked a Calgary court to look into the matter of his daughter's approved request for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).

 

Professor Trudo Lemmens, Scholl Chair in Health Law and Policy, spoke to reporter Dan Riskin on CTV Your Morning, Mar. 13: 

"We don't have all the details... But in general this case seems to emphasize how MAiD law and policy in Canada focuses on access to providing death rather than protection against premature death. It leaves a lot of discretionary judgment to individual physicians."
