tort law and social equity

Led by Professors Sophia Moreau (U of T Law), Zoë Sinel (Western Law) and Jean Thomas (Queen's Law), the Tort Law and Social Equality Project aims to bring together academics, lawyers and judges from across Canada — and beyond — to think about ways in which tort law either perpetuates existing social inequalities or can be used creatively to combat such inequalities.

The project website, which will go live on Feb. 11, contains an online database, fully searchable by any member of the public, of primary law and secondary sources relating to tort law’s unequal impact on certain social groups.

The database will be growing continually, and academics and legal professionals are invited to submit relevant sources in the Your Contributions section. The website also contains an online discussion forum, which will feature monthly discussion panels between academics, lawyers, and judges, with each month focusing on a different issue of interest.
