(Sept. 8, 2011) The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Prof. Alan Brudner has just been appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

Over the last two decades, Prof. Brudner has produced a body of scholarship in legal theory, constitutional theory, and criminal law that has won international acclaim for its successful execution of a theoretical project that transforms our understanding of both private and public law. This project has come to fruition in three highly praised and widely discussed books as well as in numerous influential articles published in leading journals.  Just one indication of the impact of Alan’s work are the many symposia that have been held internationally to discuss his work.  Last year alone, Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Law held a colloquium on his Punishment and Freedom, and in October, 2010, the University of Manchester held a symposium on all three books of his trilogy. As many of you know, a special issue of the New Criminal Law Review this summer was also devoted to essays on Punishment and Freedom.
