Rob Prichard '75(Sept. 21, 2010) It’s been a busy month for former law dean and UofT president, Rob Prichard, LLB ’75. Today, publishing house Penguin Canada announced his appointment as its new chairman. Prichard was also recently appointed chair of the international business law firm Torys LLP.

He stepped down as Metrolinx’s president and CEO earlier this year, but continues to currently chair the transit organization’s board of directors. Previously, Prichard served as president and CEO of Torstar between 2002 and 2009. Torstar is a Canadian media company with operating businesses in book publishing, including Harlequin, Canada’s largest trade publisher, and newspapers. He has served on numerous public and private sector boards including McClelland & Stewart Ltd.

John Makinson, chairman and CEO of Penguin Group, says “Rob needs no introduction.  He is well-known and universally respected throughout Canada.  He’s perfect for the job and I am thrilled that he has agreed to join us.  From his work with the University of Toronto Press, McClelland & Stewart and Harlequin, he knows our industry well and will be a wonderful ambassador and champion for Penguin Canada.”

Les Viner, managing partner of Torys LLP, says: "I have tremendous respect for Rob and look forward to working with him. His broad experience in law and business makes him a terrific resource as an advisor to our clients, a mentor to our younger lawyers and a member of our leadership team. We are all very pleased that Rob is joining us at Torys."

The Faculty of Law congratulates Rob Prichard on these appointments!
