Rebecca CookThe Faculty of Law congratulates Professor Emerita Rebecca Cook on her Order of Canada award, announced Dec. 30, 2012 by Canada’s Governor-General David Johnston.

One of 91 appointments, she was named a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition of “her achievements as a legal scholar on issues of women’s rights, reproductive and sexual health law.”

Cook, a world-renowned expert in this area, is the Faculty chair in International Human Rights and co-director of the International Reproductive and Sexual Health Law Programme. She also has numerous cross-appointments throughout the University of Toronto, in the Faculty of Medicine, Joint Centre for Bioethics, and Women and Gender Studies Institute, to name a few.

The Order of Canada is one of the highest civilian honours. It was created in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s centennial year and to laud outstanding lifetime achievements, community service and service to the nation.
