The honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced on June 23, the judicial appointment of Faculty of Law graduate, Monica Biringer (LLB 1985), to the Federal Court of Appeal.

Justice Biringer received her education from Queen's University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. In 1986, she was admitted to the Ontario Bar, and shortly after, she was an attorney with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP when she was appointed to the Canadian Tax Court in 2021. Justice Biringer spent most of her career working in the field of corporate tax planning, specializing in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and financial restructuring. In addition to her professional practice, Justice Biringer has been an author and speaker at conferences on various aspects of Canadian tax matters and is a past Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation. She taught at the Bar School and served on the editorial boards of several tax periodicals. Justice Biringer has received recognition for her outstanding service in tax law and her work for women in the legal profession from numerous domestic and international tax organizations.
