Two JD/MBA students have started a technology project to make legal referrals easier. Jonathan Bega and Parsa Pezeshki, both Class of 2014, and Hamid Tavakoli, a Dalhousie computer science graduate, have developed a web application to process lawyer-to-lawyer referrals for paying clients and pro bono files.

L2L caters to lawyers looking to expand their clientele, and to those wanting to improve the management of their referral exchanges. The online software helps lawyers track referrals, and the matchmaking system helps lawyers serve clients better by finding the right lawyer for their clients’ needs.

L2L is currently undergoing testing by a number of Ontario-based lawyers and a handful of American attorneys. The beta product went live at the end of May. Prior to the development of the site, Jonathan and Parsa personally interviewed about 100 Toronto-based lawyers evaluating the interest for such an application.

The lawyer-only site intends to provide tools for an increasingly important aspect of lawyers’ practices. Although L2L has not yet been opened to the public, feedback from its early users has been positive.

L2L allows the alumni community to support itself by facilitating the exchange of clients and by making donations to the Faculty of Law Alumni Office through its online gift-giving system.
