Calls for quick test for courts to recognize Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation

An advisory committee chaired by the Faculty of Law's Dean Mayo Moran to investigate the issue of Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation, or SLAPP, has produced its final report on crafting anti-SLAPP legislation. The report is now available online

The Ontario Ministry of the Attorney-General struck the committee to advise on legislation “designed to prevent the misuse of the courts and other agencies of justice without depriving anyone of appropriate remedies for expression that goes too far.”

The Anti-SLAPP panel included Brian MacLeod Rogers, LLB 1977, a media lawyer with his own practice, and Peter Downard, LLB 1984, a partner with Fasken Martineau in Toronto.
