ALSA winter feast

On January 17, 2011, the Aboriginal Law Students’ Association, along with assistance from Lisa Del Col, Aboriginal Law Program Coordinator, and Faculty Advisor Douglas Sanderson, organized the New Years’ Feast, an annual event designed to introduce the student body to Aboriginal food, culture and the spirit of thanks-giving.

Opening of the New Year's feast

This cross-cultural awareness activity was opened with a smudge and joint blessing between a First Nations House elder and Faculty alumnus Aaron Mills, and featured traditional food prepared by both the students and Council Fire Native Cultural Centre. The students of the Faculty enjoyed such traditional foods as Three Sister’s Vegetable Medley, Wild Rice and Bison casserole, and Saskatoon Berry Pie while being entertained by the talented Toronto-based Métis Fiddler Quartet. The Feast was a resounding success, as students returned to class with full stomachs and a greater appreciation for Aboriginal culture.
