Note: This course satisfies the "Legal Ethics" graduation requirement.

This course introduces students to legal ethics and professional responsibility. Students will examine the foundations of ethical reasoning, the Rules of Professional Conduct, and the principles and values which underlie legal ethics. Topics to be considered include: the solicitor-client relationship, the roles and responsibilities of the advocate, conflicts of interest, privilege and confidentiality, whistle-blowing, the regulation of the legal profession, and the role of the profession with respect to access to justice and other aspects of the administration of justice.

Evaluation
A 3-hour open-book, in-class examination (80%), a 300-word response to discussion questions related to the readings (10%), and class participation (10%).
