Moving day for Flavelle House staff, visiting faculty set for July 17

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

There's still some last-minute packing going on at Flavelle House today, as staff such as Dylan Reid, right, and Jennifer Tam, below, and visiting faculty gear up for their big moving day tomorrow, July 17 to their temporary home at 90 Wellesley St.

The move occurs over two days, so we ask for your patience as these staff and visiting faculty settle in their new offices.

All phone numbers remain the same, and an updated contact list with new office room numbers will be sent out shortly.

The final stage of the move--the move of library staff to the Birge-Carnegie Building at Victoria University--should occur late this week or early next week.

Also this week, fence panel erection is slated to commence Thursday, July 18, in the plaza area outside of the back of Flavelle House, between the north side of the Bora Laskin Library and the Faculty of Music. The fencing will be placed down half of the back steps and out towards Philosopher's Walk.

Construction project and moving day update

Thursday, July 4, 2013

Summer is upon us and we wanted to update you on the construction project.  Permit approvals are making their way through the normal channels of municipal governance. Final moves of some of our staff members and our library collection will be underway this month. The last stage of the move of the Bora Laskin library collection is scheduled for mid-July and the library will close for a few days during this stage. Advance notice will be posted on the library’s blog. All library and IT staff will move to the first floor of the Birge-Carnegie Building at Victoria University at the corner of Charles Street and Queen’s Park, just across the street from the Faculty of Law. Birge-Carnegie will be the new home for the Bora Laskin Law Library as well as the main law student 'hub' during the 2013-15 transition period. In addition, some faculty (visiting and emeritus) and all staff in Flavelle House are scheduled to move later in July to temporary offices at 90 Wellesley St., near the Faculty of Law’s other building at 39 Queen’s Park. Their phone numbers remain the same.

Jackman Law Building breaks ground and the Faculty of Law celebrates

Thursday, June 6, 2013

Blue skies, baseball caps and a picture-perfect setting by the Bennett Gates greeted the more than 170 guests who attended the June 4 groundbreaking of the Jackman Law Building.  And with the official turning of the sod, the Faculty of Law expansion was set in motion.

“This is a great day in the history of the law school,” said Dean Mayo Moran. “The new building will create a future for the Faculty of Law that is even brighter than our illustrious past.  We are so grateful to all of our benefactors who believed in the importance of this project and came forward to make it a reality.”

This spectacular new facility—named after the law school’s lead donor, the Hon. Henry N.R. Jackman, LLB 1956, a former lieutenant-governor of Ontario, U of T chancellor and long-time benefactor to Canada’s largest university—will house long-awaited spacious, modern, environmentally friendly classrooms, offices and collaborative areas.
