What We Offer: The CDO's Guides and Resources
Online Resources
The Career Development Office has a wealth of written resources to help students widen their career options, navigate hiring procedures, prepare application materials, and improve their interview skills.
Among the many resources on offer are guides to first year and second year summer employment, as well as articling and clerkships. You will find tips for putting together internship proposals and tutorials for preparing excellent resumes and cover letters. To familiarize you with a variety of practice areas, the CDO offers guides to careers in fields such as public interest, private practice, and legal academia.
Workshops and Events
In addition to online guides, the CDO provides regular career planning and development events aimed to help students select from among the many opportunities that exist for those with a legal education.
Among these events are programs that provide information about summer recruitment, articling, and clerkships. The CDO also hosts panel discussions on different practice areas, as well as options beyond traditional legal practice. Finally, students can polish their interviewing skills through mock interviews and learn to produce effective applications through resume writing workshops and through one-on-one counselling sessions with CDO staff.
To view a calendar of upcoming events and register for programs, sign in to UTLC and see upcoming events under the "Events" tab. Workshops and Events can also be viewed on E.Legal, under "Events" or in the Calendar.
All CDO resources include guides, handouts, videos, and job postings which are accessed through UTLC and are stored in the Resource Library. If you are a current student or graduate and you do not have a UTLawCareers password, please contact the CDO at cdo.law@utoronto.ca.
