Second Annual Conference on Student Publishing in Law

The University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review invites students and faculty to attend the Second Annual Conference on Student Publishing in Law. The Conference offers law students from across Canada the opportunity to present their papers and have them reviewed by leading academics and practitioners.

The Conference begins with a reception at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP on Thursday, March 8th, 2007, at 5:00 PM to recognize this year's authors. Click here for information about the reception.

On Friday, March 9th, 2007, five papers will be presented in a series of panels:

  • Eric Bruce, "Legal Trans-Narratives: Nixon v. Vancouver Rape Relief" (University  of Toronto)
  • Joseph Cumming & Robert Froelich: "NAFTA Chapter XI and Canada's Environmental Sovereignty.  Investment Flows: Article 1110 and Alberta's Water Act" (University of Alberta)
  • Carla Goncalves Gouveia: "From Laissez-Faire to Fair Play: Workplace Violence & Psychological Harassment: An Analysis of Cross-National and International Labour and Employment Laws" (Osgoode Hall Law School)
  • Jayson Laplante: "Playing Hardball with Repeat Offenders: the Constitutionality of the Proposed Three-Strikes Reverse-Onus Dangerous Offender Law under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms" (McGill University)
  • Chat Ortved: "The Dope's Process: Athletes' Rights and the Rise of the Non-Analytical Positive" (University of Toronto)

Prior to the papers being presented a Welcome Lunch will be held at 12:00 PM at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. Following the presentations, Peter Hogg, former Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School, will issue a keynote address. The Law Review hopes that the Faculty of Law community will attend the presentations to encourage student publishing in law and to offer their insights on the papers.
