Several University of Toronto researchers received support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) through Partnership Grants announced on August 29.

The grants support formal partnerships between academic researchers and community partners, other academic institutions and businesses that will advance knowledge and understanding on critical issues of intellectual, social, economic and cultural significance. The grants received by U of T researchers are for projects that aim to transform lives. 

Faculty of Law Professor Anver Emon, Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Islamic Law and History and director of U of T's Institute of Islamic Studies, is the recipient of a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant for “Uncovering systemic Islamophobia in Canada". Co-directors of the three-year funding include, Nadia Hasan, National Council of Canadian Muslim; Reyhana Pate, Islamic Relief Canada; collaborator, Amira Elghawaby, Canadian Race Relations Foundation; and partners, Canadian Race Relations Foundation (Toronto, ON); Islamic Relief Canada (Burlington, ON) and National Council of Canadian Muslim (Ottawa, ON).
