University of Toronto & Faculty of Law Graduate Scholarships
Graduate students can expect to finance their graduate legal education in a variety of ways. The options listed here are not exhaustive and all applicants are expected to independently investigate and apply for all external and university-wide awards for which they are eligible. Failure to apply for available external and university-wide awards will be taken into account by the admissions committee.
Open Awards

Financial need is a consideration for all open awards. If you wish to be automatically considered for all open awards for which you are eligible, you must complete the Financial Assistance Application Form within your admission application.
Targeted Awards
See the Complete List of Graduate Fellowships and Awards for more information about targeted awards, which are focused on particular groups such as aboriginal law students, or particular research areas like capital markets, legal ethics, constitutional law, tax law, and others.
Financial need is also a factor for targeted awards. You must complete the Financial Assistance Application Form within your admission application and specify which targeted awards for which you are eligible and wish to be considered.
External Graduate Scholarships
Graduate students at the Faculty of Law have historically been successful at receiving external scholarships such as the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), various fellowships from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and the Viscount Bennett Fellowship of the Canadian Bar Association. Students are strongly encouraged to search the Internet, which is also an excellent source of information for scholarships and other support for graduate students.

Loans and Savings
Some students will finance their graduate legal studies through personal savings or private loans.
Information on various financial aid programs, such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) and the University of Toronto Advanced Planning for Students (UTAPS) program, can be found on Enrolment Services' Financial Aid page. Also review the financial assistance options that are available through your provincial or territorial government.
Employment
Students enrolled full-time are discouraged from undertaking employment or other programs requiring more than 10 hours per week without the permission of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies. Permission will be granted only in extraordinary circumstances.
