On February 15-16, The University of Toronto Faculty of Law Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS) hosted the annual Hockey Arbitration Competition of Canada (HACC), a salary arbitration competition that allows law students to enhance their advocacy skills in the context of NHL contract disputes.

Fourteen teams, representing 10 law schools across Canada, participated. The teams represented either the player or the club side in mock salary arbitrations before experienced arbitrators, including NHL player agents and team executives. A special thank you to Stefanie Holland, Bradley Holland, and Gerrit Yau (JD 2022) for arbitrating the final round.

We are thrilled to announce that U of T Law students Paul Buzzelli (2L) and Thomas Mora (2L) won the competition!

A special thank you to Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP for their generous sponsorship, and to HACC Co-Directors Brynne Dalmao (3L) and Ben Merrell (3L), as well as the dedicated team of SELS volunteers, for hosting this outstanding, entirely student-run event.
