(April 3, 2012) The Faculty of Law's David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights is pleased to announce that distinguished civil rights and constitutional advocate Joseph J. Arvay, QC, will be the Asper Centre's inaugural Constitutional-Litigator-in-Residence in fall 2012.

Arvay, a founding partner of the Vancouver-based firm Arvay Finlay, will be teaching constitutional advocacy in the Asper Centre clinic during the month of September. Drawing upon his extensive experience as a constitutional litigator, he will mentor students on the case files that they will be working on in the clinic. He will also be giving a public lecture for the benefit of all of the students and faculty at the University of Toronto law school.

"We are privileged to have such an experienced and highly regarded litigator join the Centre this fall.  The students' learning  will be incredibly enriched by his insights and expertise in the practice of public interest law," says Executive Director, Cheryl Milne.

Arvay heads a robust civil litigation practice in BC, with a focus on constitutional and administrative law. He's been involved in numerous important constitutional cases in BC and across Canada, including Aboriginal rights litigation, medical malpractice, class actions, commercial litigation and defamation.
