The Dean’s Student Leadership Award recognizes the outstanding co- and extra-curricular leadership of our 1L and 2L students and values both traditional and non-traditional forms of leadership, including:
- Contribution to a sense of community at U of T Law;
- Leadership related to equity and diversity at the law school and/or in the legal community;
- Leadership on U of T Law committees, clubs, organizations, journals and/or student government;
- Encouragement of fellow students to become involved in co-curricular and/or extra-curricular activities.
"It was wonderful to see so many inspiring students on the shortlist of nominees for the Dean's Leadership Awards," said Dean and University Professor Jutta Brunnée, James Marshall Tory Dean’s Chair. "We celebrate their commitment to fostering a positive and engaging environment within the law school."
The recognized students are now in their next year of study.
The Dean’s Student Leadership Award recipients for 2022/2023 are:
1L Awardee
Brianna Morrison, 2L
Brianna fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for fellow Indigenous students as a mentor. She held the role of VP - Social with the Indigenous Law Students' Association (ILSA), and was an active member of the law school's Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Committee.
2L Awardees
Caeleb ‘Rae’ Goff, 3L
Through the Students' Law Society Friendship Subcommittee, Rae helped students find their place as well as a support network at law school. She was also a 2L Students' Law Society Representative (SLS), an executive of the Peer Mental Health Support Program (PMHSP), and a First-Generation Network (FGN) Mentorship Coordinator, reflecting her commitment to helping others overcome challenges and succeed.
Justin Kim, 3L
Justin's role as co-president of the Faculty of Law Athletics Association significantly enriched the extracurricular lives of law students, promoting fitness, camaraderie, and a strong sense of community. He was also dedicated to promoting diversity and cross-cultural understanding through his work with the Korean Law Students' Association (KLSA).
Recipients will be invited to a lunch with the Dean and will receive a special certificate recognizing their accomplishment.
