We'd thought you'd like to know just how talented and capable our executive team from Eastern Construction is. Not only do they all have extensive project experiences and varied educational backgrounds, but the majority do like their cheese and Netflix during their downtime, thought not necessarily together....

 

Gilbert Giavon, Senior Project Coordinator

A self-motivated and seasoned professional, Gilbert has expertise in high-level contract support with a detailed and organized approach to planning and document coordination. Project closeouts, invoicing, shop drawings processing, requests for information or changes are his bailiwick, and he ensures projects come within scope and budget. He has a bachelor of arts in urban and regional planning from Ryerson University and has studied public administration, real estate law and the basics of fall protection.  Notable projects include: 330 Progress, Toronto Police Storage Facility $14M and Woodbine Slots, escalator and gaming expansion $15M.

Steve Gray, Construction Manager

Steve is a highly respected construction manager in the industry, managing site operations, construction methods, planning and scheduling with an ability to deliver solid results while maintaining an unwavering commitment to teamwork, safety and quality. He began his career as an engineer and has progressed in a short period of time to his current position as construction manager—the most senior field level. Steve has a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Waterloo, and is certified in health and safety areas, sector specifications, propane and confined-spaces construction, first aid and others. Notable projects include:  Mount Sinai’s Women’s and Infants Fit-Up Project $100M; UTM, New Instructional Design complex (D/B) $54M; St. Michael’s College School auditorium $9M; University of Toronto, St. George Campus’ Central Exam Facility $14M; and the National Ballet School’s Maitland Residences $14M.

Alex Kranyak, Project Engineer

Alex is a talented, hardworking, young professional with a broad range of co-op experiences. He enters the construction industry excited to learn and grow, looking forward to the many challenges that lay ahead. His excellent leadership, organizational and time management skills have been developed through years of balancing high academic achievement with significant participation in extra-curricular activities and employment. Alex has a bachelor of applied science (honours) in civil engineering, co-op program, from the University of Waterloo, and his certifcations include: basics of supervision, health and safety, surveying fundamentals, standard first aid/CPR/AED Level C.Notable projects include: Ontario Power Generation, Nanticoke Generating Station; Hatch Mott MacDonald, Burlington, Ontario Structural Co-op Student Project: Mid-Halton Wastewater Treatment Plant Phase IV & V Expansion; City of Hamilton, Ontario Public Works, Environment and Sustainable Infrastructure Division, Design Section Engineering Design Assistant; Engineering Northwest Ltd. (ENL), Thunder Bay, Ontario Engineering Co-op Student Project: TransCanada Highway Improvement.

-CFL or NFL? CFL.  Bigger field, extra man, three downs, and yes, it is Canadian.

-Netflix or network TV? Network TV.  I look forward to my weekly show lineup, live news, and those informative commercials.

-Cheese or chocolate? Chocolate.  Although I do really love cheese as well.

-Favourite all-time movie? To be honest, I don’t really have a favourite.  I enjoy most types of movies.  If I had to choose, the Mighty Duck trilogy would be at the top of my current list.

-Desert island album? I like all types of music from rock to pop to classical.  So I would have to ensure my iPod is fully charged with all of my favourites.

-In my next life, I’d like to be: A professional athlete.

 

Mick Sullivan, Project Superintendent

Mick has more than 10 years of construction industry experience with a solid reputation for dedicated commitment to safety and quality. He started his career as a labourer/carpenter and has progressed to a superintendent position. He is a competent manager of site operations, has a good grasp of construction methods, planning and scheduling.  Mick’s credentials include a diploma in civil engineering technology from St. Lawrence College, and certifications in first aid, propane handling, confined spaces entry, scaffold hazard awareness, health and safety, among others. Notable projects include: 330 Progress Toronto Police Warehouse Renovations $14M and the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management $71.5M.

Dean Walker, Project Manager

Dean is an experienced construction professional who can seamlessly transition among industrial, commercial and institutional projects of varying size and complexity. A seasoned leader, Dean’s project management capabilities encompass career experiences in project coordination, and site superintendent and quality control. His professional accreditations include Gold Seal, LEED AP®, CPR and first aid, among others. He has a bachelor of civil engineering and a master of management from Lakehead University, and a diploma of civil engineering in technology from Fanshawe College. He’s the recipient of the 2012 Eastern Service Quality Award and the 2011 Eastern Core Values Award. Notable projects include: 330 Progress, Toronto Police Storage Facility $14M; Toronto Police Services, 14 Division $31M and the Oakville Place Renovation $5M.
